All is NOT Quiet on New Year's Day (with apologies to U2)
2005-01-25
The first month of 2005 is grinding to a halt, but Quixotic is just getting started! We took some big steps forward last year: We published our first ashcan (Masque of the Dragons #1, in case you forgot) and saw our first work published in Imperium Comics™ Trailer Park of Terror (check out www.imperiumcomics.com to find out how to get our stuff). We hope to capitalize on the successes of 2004 in a big way in 2005. Masque has some simmering prospects in Quixotic™'s home-town (hint-hint), and we are planning some really interesting stuff with Quantum Monkey Business. By the time San Diego rolls around this year, we might really have something to crow about, so keep watching this space!
Fangirl Radio?!?!
2004-09-17
Kathy Bugajsky, letterer extraordinaire and self-proclaimed uber-geek, has added another badge of honor: she’s now a regular columnist for FanboyRadio.com! Entitled But You’re a Girl!, Kathy’s column is a fan-friendly, in-depth look at all things geek from the female point of view. With installments like “Batgirls Need Love Too”, “Strip, Baby, Strip!”, and “How to Get Your Girlfriend Into Comics” (in three parts, no less), Kathy explains that fangirls are people too, and that maybe, just maybe, you can get a girlfriend geek-boy! But You’re a Girl! is posted every Wednesday at www.fanboyradio.com. Check it out.
Imperium Comics Ho!
2004-09-17
2004 has been good for Quixotic Comics, and Imperium Comics is the reason why. Earlier this year, Matt submitted “Spooky House”, a short he’d been shopping for a while, to Imperium Comics’ Trailer Park of Terror, and they accepted it. The story was published in the August Trailer Park of Terror Full Color Special. Written and penciled by Matt and inked by Rich, “Spooky House” is the first published work for both creators. Matt and Rich both spent time at the Imperium Booth in San Diego, signing and doing sketches, and they dropped a copy of Masque of the Dragons #1 off with them. They liked it enough to ask for a story from Matt and Justin, which resulted in “Gruff” a short story that will see print in the Trailer Park of Terror Halloween Full Color Special. Hooray Imperium Comics! Hooray Beer!
The Aftermath of San Diego
2004-09-17
Our favorite time of year has come and gone, but even two months later, we’re still reveling in the experience. We spent the week going to self-publishing and “breaking into the industry” seminars, and shopping Masque of the Dragons. We managed to get the book into the hands of some of the publishers on our wish lists and got it looked at by a plethora of others. The book was universally well received, in that everyone was impressed with the packing and the presentation. Not surprisingly, most folks either rejected it outright or promised to take a look at it after the con. Still, more people took a copy than rejected it, and we hope to hear from a publisher some time during the fall. We also made some interesting connections that could bear fruit in he future (tease, tease). All in all a fun and satisfying experience, and we look forward to giving it another go next year!
We're San Diego Bound!
2004-07-18
Well, it's that time of year again so we're off to San Diego to shmooze, booze and sell, sell, sell! Last year Quixotic Comics was nothing more than a vague idea. This year, we are an organized force to be reckoned with. We'll be pushing our first title Masque of the Dragons this year, in hopes of finding a publisher. We printed some actual copies of Masque #1 (Thank you Dream Weaver Press!!!) and will be handing them out as submissions and as business cards. We plan to inundate the editors and publishers with copies of the book, as well as some of our favorite creators. Keep your fingers crossed for us, and we'll let you know how it goes when we get back.
