Submissions

At present, Quixotic Comics is not a publisher and we are not able to accept project submissions. This stance may change in the future, but for now we cannot turn your projects into comic books.

However, we are a very small collective of creators with ideas that need developing. Specifically, we have multiple stories in various states of completion, from loose plots to partially scripted, that are in need of artists to bring them to life. As such, we are interested in seeing art samples from pencilers, inkers, and colorists.

It’s important to note that we are hard at work on projects right now and we all have demanding day jobs. We lack an editorial staff of any sort, let alone a dedicated submissions editor. So we can look at your art samples, but we can make no promises as to when we’ll get to them and to what extent we will offer criticism. Have patience with us, though, because who knows what benefits that patience could reap! Similarly, this is serious business to us…we want to earn a living doing this. So please, only serious submissions by serious creators.

Examples of what we’d like to see:

Pencilers
Anybody in this industry will tell you the same: we want to see sequential comic book art, about three to five pages. Try to show as many types of comic imagery as possible: action, a conversation, group action, and perspective. The more of the above you can fit into your sample, the better. My personal experience is that I’ve never had a book where I didn’t have a chase, a conversation in a crowd, or some grand perspective-driven establishing shot that takes up a full page. Writers love using these devices and Justin is no different. Bonuses also for animals, period clothing or cars.

Inkers
We want to see both your inks and photocopies of the original pencils. We need to see if you enhanced the drawing. With inkers we will accept pinups but as long as there are some sequential art pages as well. We would love to see you ink various styles of art.

Colorists
We are looking for Computer color separation, not flat color. We would like to see multi-paneled comic pages. The reason is that designing a color scheme for a single environment is one thing. However with multiple panels the page has to exist as a design and flow as well as the individual panels. This is not a point and click position that anyone with a Mac and Photoshop can do. This is a real talent.

Writers
We have more stories to tell than we have artists to tell them. Writers are unfortunately the last thing we need. If we ever do need more writers, we’re getting somewhere…and we plan to get somewhere, so keep watching this space.

Letterers
Sorry, our bad. Letterers are the last thing we need. Kathy doesn’t have enough to do as it is.
